How Far Do You Go?

September 21, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Media

Not sure if you have heard or not, but there is girl (28 years old) in Washington (state) that claimed some random lady come up to her and through a cup full of acid in her face.

In a strange and disturbing turn of events, it seems as if the girl was lying the whole time.  In fact, she, herself, smeared the face-disfiguring liquid (Drano) on her face.  She claimed she did it to kill herself.  You can read the story HERE.

This whole story has disturbed me on a couple of levels:

  1. Who goes to the extreme of smearing “acid” on their face for either attention or to kill themselves?
  2. How desperate is the girl to get attention and why is she so desperate?
  3. What thought process did she go through to concoct the original story she did?
  4. Where is this going to leave her mom and dad?

All this morning, the passage I have been thinking about is 1Samuel 16.7, “The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

Here is someone who was concerned about her outwardly appearance but now we are seeing that inwardly there are some serious struggles going on.  And this breaks my heart, not only for her, but for all us who so concerned about what others think about us (inward struggle) that we act in a way (outward struggle) that draws such attention to who we really are.

My prayer, for myself today, is that I would find complete and total contentment in who God created me to be, both on the outside and as a work in progress on the inside!

Just a Reminder

Thought we could use a reminder:

The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.  –1 Samuel 16.7
