Smith Christmas Morning

Here are some pics from Christmas morning of the kids–and Pumpkin.

Christmas favorites:

Isaac: Big Bakugan, Nintendo Wii

Noah: Big Bakugan, Nintendo Wii

Emma: Hannah Montana outfit, doll, boots (just like her mom’s)

My favorite moment was when Isaac read from Luke 2! I also LOVED the Monkey Bread Anna made.

Anna’s favorite: Watching the smiles on the kids faces!!

Overall, this Christmas had been the BEST Christmas we have had since we have had kids. They were so much fun and all of them are still into the Christmas Magic!!

We are all so truly blessed and MUST constantly remind ourselves that our Christmas pales in comparision to most families’ around the world.

Thank you so much God, for family, friends but most of all for the GIFT of your Son!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Smith Christmas Eve Tradition

It is a TRADITION in our family to have Christmas Eve dinner at Waffle House!!! It is kind of weird since we won’t eat there any other time of the year but for us it is a fun tradition. People look at us strange when we walk in because we are usually dressed up for Christmas Eve service and they wonder why in the world we would be eating there.

Every year we have our waitress take our picture. Here is this year’s picture:

Tis the Season Series Week 3

Today was our last EPIC meeting for the year 2008. We ended it with a focused look at LOVE and how it relates to Christmas and everyday of our life. Below is the teaching outline:

BOTTOM LINE: Love is more than a word, it requires action.

INTRO:

Love is a loaded word.

Everyone has his or her own meaning of love and how it should be expressed, said or shown.

TENSION:

We love a lot of things.

I love my computer

I love my car.

I love Little Debbie

I love the Colts

Oh yeah, and I love my family

Those we love may wonder if we really love them because our actions speak differently.

The gap between what we say and how we act can be huge.

TRUTH:

The Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness (John 1:14 NLT).

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16 NIV).

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing (1 Corinthians 13:1-3 NIV).

These three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love (1 Corinthians 13:13 NIV).

APPLICATION:

We need to live out love.

How can you go beyond just saying you love people to showing them?

In your family?

In your church?

In your school?

On your team?

Around the world?

CONCLUSION:

Follow Jesus’ lead and let your words be more than talk.

Help others experience love.

Tis the Season Series–Week 2

Here is the Teaching Outline for Week 2 in our Christmas series, Tis the Season:

BOTTOM LINE: Peace is meant to be experienced through relationship—with God and with others.

INTRO:

With all of the energy we spend singing about peace, this is the time when we seem to have the least peace.

TENSION:

For many of us, peace isn’t really what we feel in our everyday lives.

TRUTH:

And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6 NIV).

“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests” (Luke 2:14 NIV).

Jesus came to heal and bring wholeness to a broken relationship between God and humanity. The peace that Jesus’ purpose on Earth illustrated was that of restoration.

Jesus taught ways of bringing peace into less than peaceful situations because Jesus knew that the peace we needed would have to be initiated one relationship at a time.

APPLICATION:

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God” (Matthew 5:9 NIV).

Jesus has called us to be peacemakers, and when we are, we become more like Him.

Peace costs us something.

But experiencing this peace was not meant to be a passive experience. We are meant to participate in it.

LANDING:

Maybe you, together with the angels two thousand years ago can work on making the peace not just known, but experienced. How far are you willing to go to make that happen?
