The Invisibles (2): In Focus

Deuteronomy 10.17-19 (NLT)

17 “For the Lord your God is the God of gods and Lord of lords. He is the great God, the mighty and awesome God, who shows no partiality and cannot be bribed. 18 He ensures that orphans and widows receive justice. He shows love to the foreigners living among you and gives them food and clothing. 19 So you, too, must show love to foreigners, for you yourselves were once foreigners in the land of Egypt. 20 You must fear the Lord your God and worship him and cling to him. Your oaths must be in his name alone. 21 He alone is your God, the only one who is worthy of your praise, the one who has done these mighty miracles that you have seen with your own eyes.

Our response to each other:

1. Show no partiality

2. Look after those in need

3. Love those outside the group

4. Clothe and feed them

Our Response to God:

1. Fear Him

2. Worship Him

3. Cling to Him

4. Praise Him

Micah 6.8 (NIV)

He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

WE (2): A BEAUTIFUL MESS

Bottom Line: It can be a messy process when we are in community with other people.

INTRO:

When we pursue community, things start to get personal, and they start to get messy.

TENSION:

Making community happen isn’t an easy process.

It requires risk.

“I am more alone than any other time in my life, but for the first time in my life I realize just how much this is so not a good thing.”

TRUTH:

All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer. A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity—all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved (Acts 2:43-47 NLT).

All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had. The apostles testified powerfully to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and God’s great blessing was upon them all. There were no needy people among them, because those who owned land or houses would sell them and bring the money to the apostles to give to those in need (Acts 4:32-35 NLT).

APPLICATION:

Close relationships don’t just happen overnight.

Committing to community is committing time and energy to a process that doesn’t always feel good.

To have real relationships will cost you something.

LANDING:

Each one of us was made to be in relationships—with God and with other people. When we’re in one without the other, we live a lesser life.

Lake Ann–Day #2

June 17, 2009 By: Ryan Category: Ministry Blogs

After a great night of rest our teens woke up excited about what the day had before them.  Day #2 mainly consists of continuing to get to know cabin mates and team mates.  They work on team building projects in attempt to learn how to trust each other more.

Most of our HS students had their first experience today paintballing.

But by far, the highlight of Day #2 for the Senior High campers is Fight Night.  Fight Night is just a chaotic time of crazy games and screaming.   It is absolute mayhem and absolute fun.

Oh, and as you can tell, Kevin has gotten in on the fun as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
