My Epic Journey

Foxnews.com is reporting a story about possible proof that there was an asteroid that destroyed the sinful cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. You can read the whole article here which I strongly encourage you to do.

As I look at this picture visualizing the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, I am taken back by it.  Not because of its amazing artistry or its use of light.  No I at it complexed because of the soldiers.

What shock it must have been to see Jesus step out of the tomb!  What AMAZEMENT!  What guilt!!  It is this last reason I am most touched by this picture.  Because in all reality I am no different than these soldiers.  I do my duty as a husband, father, employee even as a “church go-er” but am rarelly expecting an amazing encounter from Jesus.  I have received those throughout my life though at times and I am sure I look like the soldiers in this painting–scared, confused, guilty.

I know I often feel confused because I forget that I need God at times.  Oprah and Dr. Phil try to convince me that they have all the answers and if they don’t I can run to the nearest Barnes and Noble or Borders to scan the SHELVES of books that have the remedy to all my problems.  –And then God shows up adn reminds me that He is still there.

But that also throws me into a feeling of guilt as well because I stand there before Him, who truly knows all that I need, as a last result.  If I can’t figure it out on my own, than I will go to a friend.  If that friend can’t fix it, I will go to pop cultural trends (i.e. Oprah), if that fails I can always pick up a book.  And if in the end there is nothing else then confused and guilty I find myself then turning to God.

My challenge today for myself is to live everyday as if it was EASTER because everyday my Lord is ALIVE and He wants to be a part of my life, my problems and my solutions!

My parents recently attended our oldest son’s Upward basketball game.  When they returned home I received a pic in my inbox.  Thought you would all get a kick of a former basketball star who would skip his way around the court who has now turned youth pastor (thank you Lord!).
